Next time you visit them, bring something along that's really obnoxious, like some loud toy or an inflatable doll. Carry it with you all around the house, play with it at dinner time, etc. When they make a comment, say now you know how we feel about your *&$#@ dogs.

Alternative #2 - go to a pet store and get one of those "Bad Dog" trainers - it emits a bad sound for correcting behaviour. Keep it in your pocket and push it when the dog is at the table, jumps on your couch, etc.

My dog sleeps in my bed everynight.. He doesn't eat at the table, beg for food or get on my furniture. But...

He is a small JR Terrier and he loves to snuggle. He lays under the blanket and on top of my feet everynight. I actually tried to get him to stop he has the most comfortable doggy bed so I would tuck him into his bed get into mine but in the morning Toby would be right there sleeping on my toes.

I actually love having him with me. Not only does it make me feel safer (living by myself in a new town) to know that if somthing comes close enough he will be there to alert me. I also like to snuggle with him too. He is such the cuddlebug.

You have to let them know that their behaivior is bothering you. As a dog lover myself I sometimes forget that everyone else isn't the same as me. But I respect other ppls houses and rules, but if they don't let me know then I will act the way I normally do with my dog. So if it bothers you tell them it won't change if they don't know theres a problem.

I have dogs which sleep with me, but when I travel I usually don't drag them along. I feel they are more confortable in thier own home . I have a friend come in and care for them . I had a in-law visit with her 3 cats for a month during a snow storm and boy was it bad. Now when people come to visit I make it clear in advance "No Pets" We all love our animals but this just puts less stress on everyone. Oh, if you can't be tough about it just tell them you were recently found to have dog allergies!

They do it because they don't see it as a big deal. It's likely how they act at home so they don't see the problem doing it out.

But as they are at your house they should respect your wishes and if you do not like this then you should tell them. They may not realise you have a problem with it. If you make it clear (in a nice way) that you're not comfortable them doing this in your house and suggest other places you'd prefer the dogs to sleep in, and maybe a room where you can shut them when you eat at the table, then they should respect that in your house. If they are decent people they will understand and be happy to 'live by your rules in your house' so to speak.

But they can't read your mind and know you don't like it. It's likely they are so used to doing it at home that they don't notice it could be an issue, so you need to make that clear to them.

first of all it is your house and you make the rules if your relatives have a big dog tell them to keep it in the garage because you no longer want dogs in the house. they have to respect your wishes as long as you arent rude about it they should respect your decision.
