I am a 25 year old (fresh) computer engineer from Pakistan who just started as a software developer in a small but established database development company. My CGPA is very low and its full of failing grades (my transcript reads lack of consistency and hardwork) I know what is done cannot be changed but this has virtually closed all doors on me for getting admission ins a graduate school in USA.

I have a strong desire to do research and have the potential to perform much better in a research environemnt of my choice.

I basically have three options , on top of acing GRE general test.

-Get a very good GRE computer science score. (this is easier said than done)

-Involve my self into Research (some how manage to colloaborate and publish a paper with a US professor, it would be his/her problem to fit me in some how)
-Get admitted in a low quality (but accredited) MS program in my country, ace it, then apply for MS/phd

I am leaning towards research. prefereably involving opensource

In the UK you'd get admitted more easily. They love foreign grad students here.

I don't know about the research without a Masters. If you know someone else who's done it, ask them the full story. Most US professors would rather fit in someone they knew, who already had a Masters or who at least studied with someone they knew.

Look for accredited universities. Ultimately that is what matters, especially for masters programs in general subjects. Go with a school that might not be the best, but offers opportunity to do what you want. The pressure will be on you to perform, and if you slack off like you did your bachelors degree, it will show that perhaps research isn't for you. Get a job that fits your wishes, and you'll make more money too.

in case you have a cumulative GPA under a three.0 in the two your MS and your BS software, your probabilities of having admitted to a PhD software are very low. the only difficulty you are able to incredibly do is get a sturdy score on your GRE, attempt to place in writing a killer very own assertion and get amazing letters of advice. you in addition to mght could talk with some professors first.
