ignore these idiots...just give him a bottle, he will either like it or lump it...tinned powder milk is expensive and unnecessary after 1 year, if your child has a good diet, he will be fine on a pint of milk a day.

Add in small amounts of cow's milk to his formula (this is assuming he's on the bottle!) and gradually increase over a few weeks so by the time he is 1 or more, he will be used to it and able to cope with it. Keep a look out for any reaction just in case there's an allergy in the early days, but this is rare and would show up quite quickly.
It's great when they're weaned on to it since you can make custard, etc for all the family and it saves so much hassle!
I tended to use cow's milk for cooling/thinning down solid food if it was to hot/thick before the boys were 1.
If he's breast fed then same idea, just introduce slowly through ordinary food and reduce your feeds so that he's not so dependant on your milk. (I didn't breastfeed this long so I am assuming this, so it might be wrong!) and if you want to give a bottle feed then just work with small amounts at a time to gague his needs properly.
As far as giving a bottle - I had my 3 off the bottle by a year old or as soon after as possible and using a cup. I moved them on to solid suppers and they all settled as well with that as they did with a bottle. Sometimes it's just a comfort thing past a year old, so it's good, in my personal opinion anyway, if there could be a routine that is in place so they can settle without a bottle as the friends I know who had older toddlers still using a bottle found it difficult to get them off it later on.
Trying to measure amounts to give him is also tricky in the sense that his solids will be increasing so his need for milk will alter with meals too.
Whatever you do I hope you have success! Every child is different so it's a case of testing the water and so long as his whole diet is bablance and healthy then cow's milk is fine to start weaning him on to as he will should be getting all the nutrients he needs from his other food.

Hi, It's fine to put a baby onto cows milk at 12 months ( standard advice in the UK ) - make sure it's whole milk, not skimmed or semi as babies need the extra calories. My babies were all on a bottle at that age anyway ( no longer breastfeeding ) so I just changed the milk in the bottle in one go. If you're already feeding your baby formula milk, which is made from cow's milk anyway, it's unlikely that your baby will have any sort of reaction to it. Lets face it, standard cows milk tastes a lot nicer than baby's formula milk so your baby will probably love the new taste!

My daughter started to have full fat cows milk (blue lid) at 12 months. She was still having 3 bottles a day so i changed the lunch bottle to cows milk and the other 2 still formula. Over the week i changed all 3 bottles and she didn't notice anything. Good luck and please don't listen to all the "your child shouldn't have cows milk" before formula that's what every non breast fed baby was having!

I would NOT start the cows milk in a bottle. You can start giving him cows milk in a sippy cup and then gradually cut down on the amount of formula he gets in a bottle.

Your child can make the transition from formula or breastmilk to cow's milk anytime after a year old. Keep in mind if you are breastfeeding, that your breastmilk is still the best. Talk to your child's pediatrician before making the switch. My daughter had an allergic reaction to cow's milk at a year old, so she did not have cow's milk until she was 2 years old. She now drinks only organic hormone free 2% cow's milk. There are a lot of added unecessary anitbiotics and hormones in regular cow's milk. I don't want my daughter to develop breasts prematurely. This is something you should research before deciding on what you put in your child's body.

I just started giving my daughter cows milk in her cereal at about 11 months old, and when my tinned milk ran out, I just started giving her a bottle with cows milk in. She didnt even notice the difference.

You can give a 12month old baby cows milk no problem. Both my daughters were on cows milk from 12months old infact they both preferred cows milk, if you give your baby a little in a bottle warmed up (just a little) and see if he/she likes it you can carry on giving formula as well, try your baby on it first then gradually make all bottles with cows milk.

They can have full cream cows milk at 12 months and I just gave it to my baby in his bottle warm and he took to it straight away. Which is very strange considering he fussed about everything else.
