About a week ago, I posted up a question asking "Do you believe that Physician Assisted Suicide is ethical?"

I got many responses. Most of the answers supported Physician Assisted Suicide. But some did not....

Most of the people who were against it inforced their opinion with Christianity. But I believe that is a big issue with Physician assisted suicide...In most states here in the U.S., Physician Assisted suicide is illegal because it is believed that it is inhumane and against christian beliefs. But I believe it is your choice on how you want your life to end..especially when your in extreme pain.

Lastly, I'd like to add that I don't understand how we could make sure that when we put criminals to detah, we try our best to make sure they don't feel any pain. But if a family member is dying from cancer we have to sit and wait for them to pass away while they suffer with extreme pain. THAT IS INHUMANE

Your opinion on this?

I don't know if I would consider myself "christian",but I do believe in God and Jesus Christ.I do not go to church.I am against abortions. However, physician assisted suicides,I agree with.My son had cancer, thank god he beat it,but he told me he didn't want to go through treatments again if it came back.I agree, someone should not suffer years of pain.I do also believe in the death penalty.Difference between abortion and death penalty, the prisoner is an adult,he made the choice to take another life.A baby doesn't have the choice in an abortion.

I agree with you! I don't understand how we can let a loved one lay and suffer. My older brother has the control over our 90 year old father and he went against our Fathers wishes that were stated in Dad's living will. Dad had a Do Not Resuscitate. Dad stated quite plainly No Feeding tubes!(he has had one for over a year and a half)
No I.V..'s(he has had one for over a year and a half) But it is to late now Dad is awake and somewhat lucid. He can talk. He would be in pain now. If taken off of the feeding tubes and medications. He would suffer.I hate seeing my beloved Father in this shape.I am not angry with my Brother because My brother thought he was doing the right thing. He thought that the Dr.'s could restore our Dad to perfect health. How ever my brother said that if Dad were to have a relapse he would not interfere he'd Let the lord take Dad home.
I did let the Vet euthanize my very old very sick cat. I know my Dad is not a Cat but he is very special to me and he DID NOT WANT TO LIVE THIS WAY! My Dad was a preacher he loved the Lord so do I and I trust that the Lord won't let my Father suffer much longer.

God gave humanity the ability to make choices. If we choose assisted suicide to help ease a loved ones pain and they have asked for it then heck ya get er done.I believe it is the right choice, my wife asked me to assist her if she ever became a vegetable on life support, i would. However if it is the wrong choice in the eyes of the lord I would find out soon enough and i would gladly walk through the fires of hell for her.

Ethical maybe not. I have been thru this twice with family members and it is one of the worst things to go thru. My father with cancer asked me to help him if and when the time came when he wanted to go. I agreed and he started saving pain pills to take when he was ready. He died naturally but the fact he had made the decision and was acting on it make him feel like he had some control. My sister also was terminal and she felt helpless. She was on so much pain medication that she was not really here. I dont know if they gave her enough that she died but if they did I have no problem with it. She is at peace now. I think it is a personal decision and no one elses.

I worked at an assisted living center for years.
I am in believement that it is inhumane as well
we do not allow animals to suffer this way.
I believe this should be discussed with the relitives first but yes i completly agree.

The way around it being illegal, is when the doctor perscribes say pain pills. All they have to do is say if you take to many it will kill you, with a wink. This way the doc is not responsible if ou kill yourself.

Bravo!! I totally agree with you! It's ok to youthinize (??) our beloved pets when they are suffering, why should it be wrong to do the same for our loved ones, especially in circumstances where it's known they will not recover.

take the pain, and die the natural way. why do you need a physician to commit suicide? Just put a gun to your head. why would you pay someone to help you kill yourself when your very capable of it yourself.
