The Green Room also exists in the theatre for the actors to meet and relax. One explanation for "Green" is that in medieval days, when strolling players gave performances on the village green (Hence green ), a tent would be set up for them to change costumes ( hence green room ).
Green the colour is also known to be psychologically soothing.

I think it is called 'The green room', because green is a calming colour. In most of the homes in SA where people who have used too many drugs and now are unable to move , do anything for themselves and who go off their heads, the rooms are painted green, it calms them down and is relaxing.

Green as the colour green is calming and soothing. It is thought to have originated in Shakespearean times when actors prepared in a room filled with plants and shrubs.

I don't know if this applies to all TV studios, but when I was on 'Kilroy' many years ago, the hospitality room was green! Perhaps it is a tradition.

Just an old tradition and thankfully the decor no longer needs to be green! Don't know the origin of the tradition though.

I *think* (don't quote me on this) it's because of the colour's calming properties, it was supposed to help with stage fright.
