I turned 16 today. How is the best way to get a job?

Please help. I've been dying to get a job since I was 14. Now that I can get one I don't know what to do and how to do it. How do I ask for an application? Plus, if you can, give me some tips on how I can be more assertive and less shy because I know that will interfere with getting a job. Any suggestions? (hey I'm new to this!) :p

There are lots of things you can do here:

Look in the local paper for jobs in your area; look on the Internet, there are loads of job websites; go out to recruitment agencies who will try to find a job for you and who will give you loads of advice; and go to the job centre.

If you can't find any paid work you could try doing voluntary work as this will help you find a paid job.

If you are asked to fill in an application form for a job you need to look at the person specification (the bit that says what sort of person they want for the job) and say how you can do those things.

For your shyness and confidence there's no easy solutions. The job agencies should help as you have to go and have meetings with people, a bit like a mini interview, and so it will be good practice. If you have an interview make sure that you prepare before going by reviewing all the information you have on the company, dress up as if you look good you will feel more confident, and believe in yourself!

Well what kind of job do you want? Part time or Full time? Where do you want to work? In retail (shops, supermarkets, etc), Catering (Waiting on, Kitchen work), Hospitality (Hotel staff, cleaner) there are many more look in your local newspaper. When you have an answer to this. Firstly go and check the place out. Remember you have to spend a fair time there and it should be as good as it can be for you or if you hate it you will leave pretty soon. If it is OK then go dressed casual smart and ask for the Manager or supervisor. Ask if there are any jobs going you could be considered for and if so they will give you an application form to fill in and give back (If they don't they probally aren't fussy who they employ and that is a bad sign.)Remember you are as good as anyone else and try not to be shy. Congratulations! Dress nicely (as though you were going to church), go to the business - NOT during the busy hours around lunch or dinner if it is a food place- go during the day if possible (that is when the manager is usually there). Ask if you could fill out an application - be sure to say please, thank you, and sir or m'am - ask if they are hiring and tell them how interested you are in working there (you know - say you'd LOVE to work there, even if that is not the complete truth). Fill out the application there, if possible and hand it back in to them - or ask when the manager will be there so that you can bring it back then. You can look in the newpaper or you can ask your friends who work if their employers are hiring (a recommendation always helps!) - I recommend just going to the places you are interested in. Be patient! Sometimes it takes going in a bunch of places before you find one that is hiring! Good Luck!

first you need to write up a cv(curriculum vitae) and send it to different places you would like to work for(be realistic, you can't be a dance teacher,you don't have the qualifications or you can't be a lawyer right now, you don't have the qualifications) To be honest you would have a long wait and like you said if you're shy and you don't want to go out and look for a job, then you're not serious about getting a job, because there's a thousand and more qualified people who are out of their jobs and are scouting the streets for a job to no avail. Think small at first, if you really want a job, then look for something that you can handle. You need a resume no matter how short it is. and just ask if their hireing, they will either give you an application or tell you too submit a CV (get applications from a few different shops)

then fill in the Application with your grades, criminal history ect ect...


then take it back to the shop, and wait for the phone to ring (if any are interested)
