To add a new font to your computer
Open Fonts in Control Panel.
On the File menu, click Install New Font.
In Drives, click the drive you want.
In Folders, double-click the folder that contains the fonts you want to add.
In List of fonts, click the font you want to add, and then click OK.
To add all of the listed fonts, click Select All, and then click OK.
Notes
To open Fonts, click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Appearance and Themes. Under See Also, click Fonts.
To select more than one font to add, hold down the CTRL key, and then click each of the fonts you want to add.
You can also drag OpenType, TrueType, Type 1, and raster fonts from another location to add them to the Fonts folder. This works only if the font is not already in the Fonts folder.
To add fonts from a network drive without using disk space on your computer, make sure that the Copy fonts to Fonts folder check box, in the Add Fonts dialog box, is clear. This is available only when you install OpenType, TrueType, or raster fonts using the Install New Font option on the File menu.

Instead of just sticking it in a folder do this get the font and make sure it is unzipped Control Panel - Fonts - File - Install New Font - find where you placed the font and make sure Copy Fonts to the Font Folder is checked. And programs grab fonts when the program starts so in your case, install the font and restart Microsoft Works. This does not work on all programs. Example: Microsoft Paint has a limited selection of fonts. Also, once you have done your document in Microsoft Works then you can only see that font on your computer or another computer that also has the font installed. Too many newbies grab some fancy font and create word documents and webpages and spends hours not understanding why the teacher/professor/friend can not see that same font. They have to have the same font installed on their computer.

Make sure the ttf file associated with the font is in the fonts directory.
Alternatively, and this is the better option, get rid of MS Works, it's a horrible suite of programs. If you don't want to fork out for full blown office, try open office. It's very similar to MS Office but free, thanks to the lovely geeks in the open source movement. You should be able to open all your MS works files in OO, and format all your documents in a much nicer way.

You should just be able to put the font files into the C:/Windows/Fonts Folder on your computer. When MS Works starts up, it looks here.
Many free fonts can be found on the internet.

Drag & Drop
Just browse to "c:\windows\fonts" then drag and drop any fonts you downloaded into this folder.
Anything that isnt a font that gets dragged and dropped will be rejected.
