First of all, very few people in America watch futbol and even fewer people can tell you anything about David Beckham. We don't know what team he played for, or his career stats, or the positon he played. The media has kept Beckham in front of the American public because he is huge in Europe.
But other than the fact that he's married to Posh Spice, we would'nt know who David Beckham is.
If Pele couldn't rouse interest in Futbol in America, what makes anyone think that Beckham will?
The guy must really be deluded and full of himself to think he is going to conquer America....
They say his skills are eroding too.

Wow, you think very negatively of this situation, and I only assusme it's because soccer isn't already big (and therefore cannot get any bigger, which I disagree with). I think this is a great move. I think with Beckham coming over to join the MLS, it will open up more doors for the League and hopefully they can build on to what small impact Beckham will have here in the US. Rome wasn't built in a day, so don't expect any immediate changes, but I know overtime, as more and more doors are opened, soccer will become bigger in the US than it is now.

The US league in which Pele played in, did a lousy job of managing the sport. At one point they had over 30 teams in the league. That was too many for a sport that was not that popular.

As for Beckham, his skils are stilll intact and he will help the sport grow in the US. He just helped Real Madrid win on Saturday with a nice free-kick.

If you think about it, Beckham has already helped the league by all the publicity he is getting for signing with the L.A. Galaxy. Imagine how much more publicity he will get when he steps on the field?

Beckham went from over-rated to under-rated in a matter of months. I think he will have a positive effect on america depending on whether zidane goes too. if zidane goes, beckham will have to play well on the pitch to keep his reputation and he will not be the "best" player in the league therefore runining his reputation. he will have a positive effect on american soccer but mainly in financial terms.

Good answer, azsoccerfan.

The fact that people are talking about him already shows that he has an effect on USA.

I don't think he's gonna make a difference with the football, but he's gonna have a good time cheating on his wife.
