Can anyone tell me the easiest way to get my new 360 connected to Xbox live? I have a PC, which has an internet broadband connection through AOL. The problem is, even though I know the basics of operating a PC - like surfing the net - I don't know anything about routers, LAN's etc though, so am not too sure what to do exactly. If I need a router can anyone suggest a good - but inexpensive - one? Also, do I need to contact my ISP about connecting with Xbox live? ANY help would be appreciated - thanks.

Hi, connecting to xbox live is fairly straight forward but you don't say if you have a usb modem or ethernet modem. If it ethernet you will have to plug the modem into your 360 and just follow the instructions on screen for the 360. However if you have a usb modem which plugs into your usb socket on the pc you will not need to buy a router providing you have an ethernet socket on your pc. If you haven't got an ethernet socket on our pc you are going to have a problem as most routers have connection via ethernet. Connect the cable supplied with your 360 to the xbox and pc. You may need to configure the settings manually though. I connected my old xbox this way and found it best to set the ip address manually. This may affect the NAT settings on the 360 though. If yor going to buy a router buy a netgear, they come out top on the review sites. You may need a modem router, check with aol first or ask someone who knows at your local comet or pc world. Setting the router up is easy, if you buy a netgear. I didn't know anything about routers either when I got mine, but their instructions are spot on. Make sure you can surf the net then connect the 360 to the router. Go to network settings on the 360 and just folow the on screen instructions. leave setting on automatic. If you want any further help drop me an email. I have set up 2 xbox's through our router which are now changed to 360's, have one hardwired to the router and the other is totally wireless via a gaming adapter (not so easy to set up as the adapter is belkin). have fun

Well see I don't know because I don't use AOL Broadband, although use Roadrunner which is part of the same company. Anyway though the easiest way would be to probably just hook the cable into the 360 instead of the computer. Short of that you can get a router and really it isn't that hard to run it that way. As to the best I really can't say, I use a netgear one and it is good.

I tried for ages to get my 360 on line with AOL, I tried different routers, wireless adaptors etc and called the xbox and AOL help lines a number of times but could not get it to work. I eventually changed to BTbroadband and connected my xbox to the wireless hub with the ethernet cable supplied with the xbox and was on xbox live within an hour. So in my opinion, change to BT.

The best way I found was with a router, and it was actually pretty easy. The first link below will help you in choosing a good router. They also provide an area for assistance in hooking it up. the second link is an awsome source for anything game hook-up related. its a forum, and they can answer any question you've got in how to hook up you 360. Good Luck!

step 1- get an ethernet cable (this is the cable that goes from your xbox to your computer's modem) try radioshack

step 2- attach cable to modem

step 3- attach other end to xbox
