As difficult as it may be at times, showing respect for your co-workers (even when you really don't respect them!) is a good thing to do. When you can rise above all of the things that they may do to try and drag you down, not only does it make you look better in the eyes of your superiors, but it is a morale booster for you as well. I even like to think that I lead by example- If I maintain a respectful attitude and professional practices, even if it just mentors one person into doing the same it is worth it. I know, this is much easier said than done but it is worth it it the long run. You end up feeling better about yourself. I also try and see the humor in some of the ridiculous crap that others do on the job. (I always keep this to myself though)

Respect is the key to any relationship - work, social or love. I guess aside from that you never know where you'll meet people again - that person you treated badly could end up being a cop that stops you for speeding, the banker that decides if you get your loan or even your boss. Be very careful how you treat people, you never know when it'll come back to haunt you!

It is important to show respect to the people you work with because that encourages team spirit. When you respect workmates, they respect you too. When there is respect at work place, the customer is happy and when the customer is happy the business thrives. When business thrives, it grows, it survives, it service the customer who brings in money.

judgment of your character. Think about, if your rude to someone you work with and you come up for something that will benefit your career or whatever, just that one little incident could kill your chances of pretty much anything that has to do with it. Your always gonna meet people who just have no kind of respect. You need to rise above that and treat other the way you expect to be treated regardless. Its your reputation and you should take it seriously

I think you have to earn respect because if someone doesn`t show you respect your hardly likely to show them respect in return whether in the workplace or all walks of life

I suppose a lack of respect in the workplace means everyone undermines everyone else and nobody feels valued. My boss shows no respect towards me and gets none in return. My colleagues do respect my judgement as I respect theirs, and we all know we can count on eachother. Respect forges friendships and makes us strong enough to get through the toughest of days.

Showing respect earns you respect - you don't need to be sniffy and grovelling but polite and pleasant pays dividends - especially when travelling up the career ladder.

maybe sometimes it's a little bit hypocrite to pretend to respect someone just because you work together and inside you're screaming "How can you be so stupid??!"... but we need this mask to create an appearent peaceful environment... that's life!!

So they don't hate you while you are working with them every single day of the workweek. Pretend if you have to.
