its always amazed me, in a so called SUPERPOWER country why they have such poor television/radio reporting.I mean in WW2 it took 2 years for anyone in America to even know there was a war going on.They are so far behind the times

They're not the last to know - just the last to understand, things outside their small focus escape them. If it's not on the doorstep it doesn't matter, and if it is and you can eat it go ahead.

When I was last in America and also speaking to some of my friends and family who have spent a long time out there, the reason for not knowin is purely because the US is such a big country, world politics doesn't bother the headlines unless it is likely to have a backlash on their economy or stability.

I really dont think they care at all. Its not likely to effect them in any big way because they can normally cope with the brunt of anything that is thrown at them on a good day so why bother worrying about the world around them. I would also say that arrogance is a factor. They think they are gods creatures and better than everyone and nothing can touch the mighty, so why worry what anyon else has to think.

I definitely think that their media has a lot to do with it. On the many occasions I have visited the US, I was amazed at the lack of information from the world outside on their news programmes. Although not always,it did seem that a lot of the time only news that directly involved or affected America was shown. Therefore it's not the fault of the average American. I do know many Americans who use a lot of other sources to gain news and information about the rest of the world, so there are plenty out there who do know what's going on.

BTW I'm talking about now - I don't know how it was during WW2.

Oh contrare. How is it you can get away with stupidity with that question? The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor which pulled us out of our 21-year isolationism. But America knew what was going on in Europe. American forces fought the Japanese in the Pacific before the decision to invade western Europe on D-Day. You want to put down America, come up with better arguments AND also say where you're from--don't cower and hide behind your computer!

You are judging a country by the quality of their media in 1939? Sounds like you are behind the times.

Because most Americans do not know the "rest of the world" exists, they talk about Europe as if it was a small town near the Eiffel tower, they just don't have any perspective about any thing that is not American, Oh and they are damned thick !!

I don't know but they have the habit of knowing last but reacting first and that too decisively. some times rather selfishly and arrogantly.
