Belagaavi (previously called Belgaum) also known as Belgaon and Belgaavi , is a city and a municipal corporation in Belgaum district in the state of Karnataka, India.
It is situated nearly 2,500 ft (762 m) above sea-level and is the headquarters of Belgaum district, which borders the states of Maharashtra and Goa.
Belgaum is located at 15.87° N 74.5° E[6]. It has an average elevation of 751 metres (2463 feet). The city is situated in the northwestern parts of Karnataka and lies at the border of two states, Maharashtra and Goa. It is one of the oldest towns in the state, lying at a distance of 502 km from Bangalore and 500 km from Mumbai. The district comprises 1278 villages with an area of 13,415 sq. km. with a population of around 5 lakh (500,000). Situated near the foothills of the Sahyadri mountain range (Western Ghats) at an altitude of about 779m, 100km from the Arabian Sea with the river Markandeya flowing nearby, Belgaum exhibits swift and kaleidoscopic changes in topography, vegetation and climate.
When India became independent in 1947, Belgaum and its district became part of Bombay State. In 1956, the Indian states were reorganised along linguistic lines by the States Reorganisation Act, and Belgaum District was transferred to Mysore State, which was renamed Karnataka in 1972.
On November 1st 2006, Belgaum was renamed to its pre-colonial Kannada name Belgaavi.[3]
Belgaum is well known for its pleasant climate throughout the year, but the last few years, summers (April through June) have been warmer than usual. It is at its coldest in winter (November through February), and experiences continuous monsoon of medium intensity during July to September. The annual average rainfall is 50".
As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Belgaum had a population of 399,600.

Climate's really cool all through the year and being very close to Goa, this place too has good number of tourist traffic through out the year.College too is a good one almost 10 years old equipped with decent equipment...

Belgaum[Belgavee], is a district in Karnataka state and is located at the border of Maharashtra and Goa states.This place is the head quarters of the district and is climatically balanced area with moderate rain falls and pleasantly cool winter and comfortably warm summer.All three languages Kannada,Marathi and Hindi are spoken here.It falls in the milk producing belt and hence dairy products are cheap.It is well connected with road and rail to Goa,Mumbai,Bangalore .Hence one can plan week end trips to any of these places,Goa being the nearest and just 4 hours away.

Belgaum is a decent place. And I've heard that Maratha Mandal is a very good college.
The best part of Belgaum is its proximity to Goa.. u can jump off every month for a holiday... yo!
