No, the cost involved vs the cheap availability of them new makes it completely pointless to repair. The best you can get for repairs is a program that will mark out damaged sectors so that nothing is written to them, but once a drive starts developing physical flaws it's time to go shopping for a new one ASAP. Any minor problems located outside of the vacuum that contains the actual hard disk can be repaired easily and cheaply.

Like any machine, it depends on what exactly is wrong with the drive.

Generally speaking, though, most of the parts in a hard drive are not user-serviceable, so it makes hard drives a little harder to repair.

The answer is yes. But most times its very expensive. I have included a link to a company I have personally used many times for our office. They are out of St. Petersburg, FL. They will take the drive and let you know what can be done for no fee, but if you decide to fix it it can be anywhere from $600.00 - $10,000.00 depending on the amounts of data you want restored etc..

yes but definitly not by you for a hard disc to be opened and repaired it neads to be in a special room with absolutly no dust and as you know these are not normal rooms so you would need to send it away and to be honest its a expensive thing to get one repaired just buy a new one if you have any data on it then your probally screwed

I am sure it can but the cost of getting it repaired may be more than the cost of a new one. That is if you don't have a friend than does computer repairs for free for friends.
Go to Wal-Mart or vist Newegg.com they sell computer parts.

Sometimes freezing it (yes, in a freezer) for a little while will make it work for long enough to back up your data, after that it'll break permanently.

Yes - but the cost far, far ,far outweighs actual replacement - so not worth it!
