"Mission Accomplished" has repeatedly been acknowledged as a mistake by the Bush administration. Though there was controversy surrounding that whole photo-op, with "president" Bush landing on the flight deck in a pilot's suit (even though he never served anything but booze during the Vietnam War), the "Mission Accomplished" banner and the flight-suit debacle really point to a more transparent display of the Bush administration's spin to get Americans behind their war in Iraq.
In essence, the White House had the banner made, fully aware that Americans were supportive of Bush's plans in the wake of 9/11, but anxious about the Bush administration's pursuit of Saddam Hussein as concerned with post-9/11 justice. (Afghanistan was seen as a "just war," because of the direct connection between the Taliban and Al Qaeda.)
So, the "Mission Accomplished" banner was intended to allay Americans' fears about a protracted war in Iraq, as well as provide additional propaganda to coalition forces and "our enemy."
Of course, like so many goals based on faulty thinking and spurious ideals, Bush and his yes-men failed utterly here, also.
Americans will be in Iraq for years to come, I believe.

"Mission accomplished" means that Bush didn't understand the scope of who the enemy was\ is in Iraq. Bush and team thought the only problem was going to be the Iraqi army.....they didn't plan on the guerrilla war that would erupt, sponsored by Iran, Syria, Al-Qaida, and who knows who else.
So now they have to finish the mission or Iraq is going to become another Afghanistan.

What did they say before coming back from Viet Nam?
The left over soldiers did come home but was the mission accomplished?
Or did some one say that?
I do not remember very clearly.
Let's see what is the fate of occupation troops this time.
How do they come back and what is the face saving statement thsi time, if at all some face is saved.

"Mission Accomplished", means just that. In 2003 our mission was to overthrow Saddam and take Baghdad and that is exactly what we did.

We reported venture achieved simply by fact the venture of toppling Saddam's regime became achieved. there are various missions in a conflict. This became a needed venture and you will desire to be happy that we accomplished our purpose. Bush by no ability reported that the conflict became over, so i think of you likely misunderstood what venture achieved ability.

Mission accomplished means we ousted Saddam. We have been their since to help fight off the local dogs while the people form their own government. If we didn't stay and help, one of their friendly neighbors would have taken them by force and killed millions of people. All the local countries are ruled by insane idiots.

It means we (The United States of America) defeated a ruthless dictator and freed millions of people. It is now up to the Iraqi people as to how they handle that freedom. It also gave the democrats an opportunity to show their true colors: flip-flop anti-American lying cowards.

Yes, generally that means that the war is over and soldiers will move from a combat role to that of peacekeepers.
But in Iraq's case, it meant that the leader of a stable nation was forced out of power by a rouge state.

"Mission Accomplished" was a commercial that attempted to sell the success of a seriously flawed plan. It was designed to boost the popularity of an incompetent president who was leading America into a conflagration of epic proportions. The troops will come home when the leadership of our congress grasps the enormity of the problems caused by our continued occupation of Iraq, or the American voters elect leaders who will begin to resolve this problem.
