i have a laptop. my brother has a computer which connected to the internet with broadband. i have the Belkin 802.11g Wireless Notebook Network Card, which i want to install on my laptop.

i inserted the cd in the laptop cd drive and installed the Belkin software. i also inserted the network card in the laptop slot when requested to do so.

when i click on the internet explorer icon and type in a http address, i get the page stating "page currently unavaiable"?

what do i have to do in order to get internet access on my laptop through my brothers computer? he already has a router.

Look at the box of your belkin for the part number. If it is F5D7050, then you should go to http://web.belkin.com/support/article/Default.aspx?lid=en&aid=5381 and download the driver.
Install it in the same way as the previous one (ie, take out the card before installation), and then do what a1222256 sad.
If however for any reason you cannot connect your rooter to the modem, then you will have to go to the internet through your brothers computer. It is called Internet Connection Sharing (ICS).
If you both have Windows XP with SP2, then you will probably easily set it up. First your brother (being the one who provides the internet) should run the network setup wizard on his computer. He should choose the option "this computer is connected to the internet and share...". After a few more clicks on wizards questions (they are easy to follow), you should do the same on your computer, but you choose "this computer uses the other computers internet connection" or similar.
But now I realised it's not just that. Before you start your wizards, you Must log in to your router (you will find the details in manual) and disable the DHCP. This will prevent the router to assign the IP addresses to your PC's as it must be done by your brother's computer (as it actually becomes the router, being directly connected to the internet).
There are also other things that can go wrong, but count on good luck :)
The advantage of ICS is that you don't have to touch your existing internet connection, ie no transfer of internet provider's settings from PC to router.
The disadvantage is that you can go to internet only when your brothers PC is turned on, and connection is a bit slower.

You need to have a wireless receiver device for your wireless transmitter. If his router is wireless then you need to get the manual for the router and go through the setting on the router. It might be set up to use some kind of security that you will have to configure on your laptop. There is also an SSID or name for the wireless network that you have to be configured to use. Most router manuals will walk you through the setup for clients. You can find them on the internet if you don't have one for his router.

It sounds like your brothers router has security on it so you need his WEP key to get a gateway through to the internet. You
