I do not live in britain i am Irish . I often read questions on here from people complaining about the bbc and the licence fee. I watched Top Gear last night and i taught it was brillant and i realised no other company in the world could make that show they regulary insult the cars and last night the insulted a whole nation. If that was shown on ITV or SKY the car manufactures and american travel companies would have treatened to pull their advertising.

I think the licence fee is around 170 pounds. If you have satelitte how much a month do you pay . If you think about it a large amont of the programs on digital tv are BBC programs (uktv)
Even itv are just stealing BBC shows . Strickly come dancing / dancing on ice. To name just 1 there are several more.
As an outsider i think the BBC is brilliant with the TV /Radio and not to mention the websites and no advertising. What do you think.?

i have no interest in cars whats so ever, but I love top gear, I think its just the relationship between the 3 presenters and their 'challenges' etc that crack me up. The one last year where they caravaned in Cornwall ( I think) was hilarious

I'm not British either, but your right about what you are saying about the BBC impartiality, they do not need the sponsorship of the car manufacturers, and there for can give a more honest opinion

While I do agree that some, yes 'some' of their programming is good, I do not agree on mandatory licence fee.
Yes, I have SKY and yes I pay licence fee, now, seeing as you can only watch most of these 'BBC' channels by buying a digital reciever, I think it is a complete rip off for the consumer to HAVE to pay for channels they don't even watch.
As a SKY subscriber, I can choose which channels I want to watch, and pay for those chosen channels.
With the BBC I do not get this choice, I HAVE to pay for a licence, even if I didn't have Digital I would still pay the same as someone who has got Digital, how is this fair?
The Licence should be scrapped and a new system should be brought in to replace it, pretty soon the 'Analogue' service will be gone and everyone will have 'Digital', It would be very simple to split the channels down, so the consumer could choose what they wanted to watch as opposed to being forced to pay for something they don't want to watch.

BBC's factual department make Top Gear. Its natural home is BBC2 in terms of possessing the same target audience, BBC2 show more factual programming with an authored perspective, Sunday nights on BBC1 are devoted to drama, etc. Why change something that isn't broken?

Long live the BBC.
You're right - they can make programs nobody else can because they don't have to worry about pleasing the advertisers.
And having no adverts makes watching movies a much better experience. ITV still puts the news on half way through some movies which is a sure fire way to make me fall asleep or turn over.

top gear was very funny last night, I think the "hicks" did a good job of making themselves look stupid. I think the problem most people have with the BBC is the fact that the top cats keep getting pay rises whilst the have to cut back on funding for programing.

however I personally like the BBC, think its important to have an independant station that doesnt rely on advertising for funds.

firstly, all jez & co did last night was show the rest of teh world what its like to be in redneck country, which is, lets face it full of homophobic bigots..and fat bast-ards

because its the BBC and doesnt carry advertising, it can and often does say things that no one else dare say. and i applaud them for it.

the truth is often unpalatable, but the BBC does teh best impartial reporting...of everyone who broadcasts.

TV is awful these days, its one reality show after another, where it seems to be one person set against another, and abused for the highest ratings. thats is neither value for money, or entertainment.

personally i watch around 10hrs of Tv a week, and its either on BBB or Sky.

waking teh dead (when its new)
dalziel and pascoe ""
Spooks
hustle

on Sky.

atlantis
startgate
over there
twenty four
Lost

and shameless on C4

theres lots of good programming, one has to be selective, thats all. and i pay my licence fee just like everyone else.

oh, and we hail from Clonmel county Cork.

I agree - last night's programme was the best yet-I don't think I stopped laughing for an hour. It just shows you what an insular country America is - if in doubt beat someone up!
