it actually takes 6 months to get there. They would need alot of food and water and oxygen for a trip like that and then when they landed it would take two years for Mars to properly align again.Going to Mars is no easy feat to accomplish.

It takes 6 to 9 months to go to Mars. And since Mars and Earth are in separate orbits around the Sun, Earth catches up with and passes Mars only once every 26 months, so you can only launch once every 26 months. You launch on a 6 month trip, then have to wait at Mars for 20 months for the opportunity to come back, and spend another 6 months coming back. Well over 2 years in space with no hope of resupply or rescue from Earth. We have no space craft that can last so long on its own. The space station depends on regular resupply and repair several times a year.

I believe that one of the current thoughts is that it may be necessary to launch a manned space trip either from the moon or from an earth orbit rather than from the surface of the earth. That will require further technology and hardware to make a safe trip (round trip!). Because Mars exhibits more gravity than the moon, the relaunch to leave Mars will be more difficult needing stronger (and heavier?) space crafts.

Because it's expensive and really quite difficult. It's not like you can just jump in the space ship and go to Mars. It's been ages since we've been to the Moon, and Mars is much further...

Actually it takes closer to 6 months to get to Mars. It depends on the velocity of the craft. 6 there and 6 back. One year in space, thats why!

because we can take samples via un maned space ships. I dont think mars is as intresting as our moon that orbits our earth.

Because they havent worked out how to overcome the problem of radiation. The astronauts would get massive doses and die.

1/. Radiation would probably kill them.
2/. They would need a heck of a lot of oxygen and a place to store it.

We haven't even been to the moon yet!! Something to do with lethal doses of radiation the further you go out.
