i am a black girl who everyone cause me white or racial challenge.
My mother is a very light skin black person. and my dad is a dark black person and people always say my mom is white.and shes not but all of my siblings have gone thur this because we're all really smart and very athletic. They say they say this stuff because whe dont act black we act white, but i was raised to be respectful
So what i want to know is what makes a person black or any other race.

i don't think people really "act a race"...you are who you are and don't worry about what other people say....they are dumb!

Yea i totally have this problem it drives me nuts. i live in a mostly neighborhood. its drives me nuts. because i wanna be a doctor they all say, oh ur so white. whitey. oreo. i just ignore it and them. its a shame really that im so used to it. but i guess ill come out on top when im a doctor. ill be happy helpin people and hear the pay isnt too bad :P.

I was raised the same way. my parents didnt want me to live into the cliche of homeboy saggin pants and "yo homie yo" talk. and it worked. i get good grades speak english well. (no yadidameans, aints or nething when i talk) and i like hu i am. those people that call you white do it because they know they have nothing on you. and that your better than them. thats how i look at it.

Just ignore them, thats what i do

EDIT: Im readin up this and im lookin at all the black ppl that have the same problems. this is pretty sad

The shame of this is the presumption that "acting white" for *some* people seems to mean you act respectful, you're smart, and athletic.

Really, the answer is not "I'm not acting white." The answer is more on the lines of "since when is acting respectful, being smart and being athletic not black"?

there is no way to act a certain color. its just skin and every person acts different regardless. people will always compare its their nature. but dont let anyone affect you with their thoughts, if this is what they are telling you then i wouldnt consider them to be very intelligent. be who you are, i think its great that your family was raised with respect, you dont find that much any more. dont ever change yourself to fit in. and..who are the people telling you this, are they black? if so, then are they calling themselves stupid? everyone has an equal shot in life, its what you make of it, dont hold back. and since when arent black people athletic, look at the detroit pistons for one...if they want to get technical.

I'm the same way... But you know what if people think you act white.. that shows how ignorant they are... you can't act white or black. You were raised right. I have the same problem explaining to people that. But you are who you are. Don't let them change who you are and how you act. You are your own person. Believe me they are just talking about you because they are jealous. Ignorance. You are black... you just act proper.

Your color makes you black. Be a proud black person because you are smart and athletic. If acting black means you can't be those things, then you are listening to the wrong black people!

I am the same way, if you didnt know better you would think I am Causian with a tan. What makes a person a certain race is there Ancestors. We tend to call people like me and you either 'African American' or 'Black' , people like Britney Spears are 'Caucasian', people like Melody Thornton 'Latinos', people like Nicole Scherzinger (she got to many so I will use the ones I know) 'Flippano' 'Russian' 'German' , etc.

I learned that your skin color comes from Caratin, melonen , and something else but I cant remeber the name.

Its cool you should just be yourself. I grew up with people calling me an oreo and all that. A lot of black people don't know how to be themselves so they all walk, talk, dress, and act the same way. Its ok to be different. Its ok to be an individual. Be yourself and try not to worry about what others think. You'll be much happier that way.

It's because people today live on sterotypes. "if ur black ur love chicken, if ur white u can't dance, if ur goth ur evil, if ur a girl ur prissy, if ur a lawyer ur a terrible person" all these sterotypes and more are what fog our country and keep us from having a more comfortable lifestyle. But a lot of people teach their kids from very young to judge others of different races, gender, style, ect, and as they grow up it becomes hate. I was in walmart and I was shopping w/ my 2yr old and we walked by a woman and her 6 or 7yr old daughter and she said as we walked by "don't look at them hunny, goths worship satan and are dirty". o.O There is nothing about your race or style ect that makes you who you are, its YOU who makes you who you are. ignore their idiotic insults and just remember when u have kids teach them to be open minded to people that are different from them. If more people did that we would have a VERY much less uptight nation.
