Yes, we need February the 14th because if there was no 14th, we couldn't get from the 13th to the 15th.... Now, if you're meaning Saint Valentine's Day... "we" don't need it. However, the Catholic Church likes for each of the saints to have their very own "Feast Day." and so we have Saint Valentine's day. His imprisonment and death are supposed to be romantic with his young lover spending day and night lying in the grass at his cell's window and refusing to leave him... and so people over the times have used his feast day to celebrate their own loves. Do we NEED it.. no. and if you're alone the media can really make that day miserable.... so skip it if it's that bad for you.

yes and no.
yes because its the feast day of st valentine who was a catholic in rome and got put to death for the romans entertainment. probably killed by lions in the arena.

no because what does that have to do with love? it really just uses that poor man. its a corporate makey-upy holiday thats used to make money

I dislike when people ask questions like that. There is a need because people wish to celebrate it. It goes back to Roman times. Must we abandon all history?
