Experience acquired over the years does not seem to interest employers. How about enthusiasm and productivity which do not depend on age

Allen,

I guess it depends on what type of job your are looking for. If you are looking for a sales position go for a commission only and prove to them that you can do the job.
With your experience if you having a hard time finding a job, crank out a consulting company based on your expertise.

If you start your own than companies will only be paying you for the work you perform and they will look for experience

Some junior colleges employ people without degrees that have life experiences in specific fields. Like teaching welding, how to rebuild automatic transmissions, air conditioning etc. You would be paid plus giving back to the community by helping students learn a trade

At over 60 years old, the jobs either come looking for you or you know its retirement time

assuming you are in u.s. home depot openly says they look for older workers. i believe walmart does, but lousy employer. there are tons of articles out there (ok, at least a few) in popular press that speak to employers who want to hire older workers. you just need to be prepared to be working in some totally new field, though.
