Wow this brings back memories. I used to have the same problem. Wash the clothes in hot water and 1 cup of hand degreaser,buy some hand degreaser from the automotive section at the department store ( it comes in a jug and smells like oranges). During the spin cycle put in some fabric softner which ever smell you like. Hope this helps I used to hate the smell of my husbands clothes.

Hot water and degreaser. I've had marginally good luck with Oxy Clean too.

squueze a lemon in each wash load that will help or a small bottle of vanilla extract
