Hey I recently read on here that drinking 1/2 cup olive oil with 1/2 cup orange juice is a cure for chronic constipation. Anyone tried it and know if it really works and would it be safe to drink during pregnancy?

yep, 1/2 cup of olive oil definitely seems like too much to me too - for those that recommended the prune juice, I've been drinking that off and on for years (becuz I've had chronic constipation for years) but I have to drink a big glass of it (prune juice) for it to have any effect at all. The thing I hate about drinking prune juice, other than the disgusting taste, is that it always makes me have cramps all day and gives me diahrreah. I've tried reducing the amount of prune juice I drink, but it just doesn't work for me at all if I don't drink a full glass. So that's why I'm looking for other natural remedies. I don't want to keep suffering thru cramps the whole day and diahrreah after drinking the only thing that actually gets results for me which is prune juice - yuk I really need to find a better remedy, o yea and plain orange juice or plain apple juice doesn't work for me either. Anyone else have any no fail remedies for chronic constipation that doesn't cause diahrreah?

It's true that you need a certain amount of fat/oil in your diet to help you go, but 1/2 c. of oil at one time seems like a lot. Talk to your doctor. Constipation while pregnant is very common, and let you doctor give you safe advice.

If your constipation is not really related to your pregnancy, you need to change your overall diet. Eat less meat, pre-prepared foods, and white flour. Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains. The closer the food is to how it occurs in nature is the way you want it. I suffered chronic constipation for over 10 years, and going vegetarian cured me of it immediately. I now eat meat about four meals per week, and it hasn't come back. You also need to drink enough water to get the stuff moving through your system. Having a baby is a great way and incentive to change your diet. You don't want your young kids eating crap, so they shouldn't see you eat it, either.

Good luck.

Probably but YUCK! Why don't you just eat a few pieces of chocolate? its a natural laxative. The other way is to eat an apple that usually moves your problems away.. orange juice alone could do that too if it has enough pulp in it.

I would definitely ask your doctor. When I was pregnant, I was overdue by 10 days, and they told me to try castor oil to bring on labor. My baby ended up having a B/M inside me, which was very dangerous to the both of us. I wouldn't mess with anything that may endanger you or your baby. Ask your doctor, he will probably prescribe you a suppository. That would be safe.

Yes, it does help. Not sure if 1/2 cup is too much... I myself have been taking olive oil daily (1 tablespoon) - not for constipation though... BTW, use extra virgin.

All fruits are fresh vegetables. A "vegetable" is a plant, any part of which is employed for food.

In the superstore, fruits are usually selected far too soon. Some are rocks, many are wrong. Some of the fruit and vegetables are right (zucchini, onions, garlic, lettuce, greens, and a few others) so I'd have to go with vegetables.

I would rather juice or eat a spinach salad

spinach will help cure constipation - AND diarrhea

If it does help with constipation the negative effects would surely outweigh the benefits. Consuming that much fat cannot be healthy.
