I experienced the same thing. Mine only got worse and worse as time went on. The pubic symphysis, the cartilage connecting the two oscoxae (which together make your pelvis) begins to expand during pregnancy to allow for the baby to pass through it. It is the only joint in the whole body that does this, by the way. The extra pressure pushing down on this joint can lead to the discomfort. I had this pain so bad I would scooch down the stairs to avoid walking. Getting up to go to the bathroom was unbearable. It was definitely worse going from a laying down, relaxed position to upright. I don't want to scare you, but I am not 41 weeks pregnant (BLAH... but being induced tomorrow) and the pain has only gotten EXPONENTIALLY worse. NOW when I sit up in bed I can literally feel my bones grind together. When I take a step, more grinding. I don't understand how they say "walking brings on labor" because I can't stand to walk enough to do any damage. My recommendations are to take extra strength Tylenol during the day, Tylenol PM at night, and to sleep with a pillow between your legs. If you have a body pillow it works well because you can rest your belly on it, which for some reason seemed to really help me also.

Unfortunately, I must tell you that I have the exact same thing going on right now, and my doctor said it is normal. I am 32 weeks along with my third child, and I've been having the pain for about 8 weeks now. I had to go on maternity leave early because it is so difficult to get up and get going! My best advice is to change position regularly because if you sit/stand/lay in the same spot for long you will get stiff. Take tylenol (it takes the edge off) and as much as it hurts, try to get some walking excersizes in your routine. Of course, you need to check with your doc to make sure nothing else is going on...but remember:
THIS WON'T LAST FOREVER and the result will be a beautiful baby. Keep your eye on the prize sister! Good luck to you.

I am 27 weeks pregnant and had the same problem. Pains when I stood upright or went from laying to sitting. Mine lasted only a few days and I honestly think I was just constipated. I would call your doctor...

i'd see your doctor just because their word will help you rest better right? i have been having similar pain from time to time. my doctor said it's just all that stretching for the baby. she said it was normal. also i know this sounds crazy but make sure your not constipated that could cause some bad pains.

Please don't take Erin's advice about taking extra-strenght tylenol or tylenol PM without consulting your doctor. These are medicines that pregnant women aren't supposed to normally take -- consult your doctor.

I experienced the same, though mine started much later in the pregnancy. Please ask your OB about Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD):
