Will a letter of recommendation from him, for my son, make any difference in admission to the college my son applies to, or farther down the road to the medical school my son applies to?

If my son applies to the medical school that this person is chancellor/dean of, will that make any difference in admission?

This is all based on the assumption that my son has the grades and test scores to qualify for admission to these schools.

That uncle shouldn't be writing a letter. He should be placing a personal call or visit with the admissions staff, if they weren't aware of the situation already.

Is this a serious question?

Very few (if any) universities would NOT admit a student that has been recommended by the chancellor or dean. (IN ANY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD). It will be more difficult to get the reccomendation from the chancellor or dean, since he/she will know the uni WILL accept his recommendation.

The letter would most certainly help, but has he offered to write it? It might put him in an awkward position if you were to ask him to write one, but if it were to come up in conversation that your son had his eye on that school, he might volunteer to bring your son on campus to show him around, and/or write a letter.

He might want to be sure that your son has what it takes, first; his reputation is on the line.
