As well as the usual publishers, you might try looking at the internet. It is possible to search for short stories, novels, etc that are published purely on the web. In this manner, you might find little known tallent, simply by searching by genre.

Karl Edward Wagner, who published several works while editing "Best New Horror."

Also, you might try Ramsey Campbell. It all depends upon the type of horror that you want. You might have a more Goth outlook, in which case, try the Meridith Gentry books, or look at the Anita Blake - Vampire Hunter series.

Could be you like demons, etc. In which case, look at Cuthulu (Can never spell that).

Hope this helps.

You could expand your horizons with Vampire books. These are done by a lot of authors, a couple of my favorites being Laurell K. Hamilton and Anne Rice.

Neil Gaiman is prolific in the genre, but I admit that I have never read him.

John Saul's books are very often horrific, but seem to arrive at that state only incidentally. They are most often aimed at trying to make the reader grow spiritually first. At least this is my opinion.
