Sloths have the cutest little faces... but algae grows in the pores alongside their fur. YUK!

Has anyone else gone off sloths after hearing that?!

Well I agree with you that they have cute faces, but the fact that they have that symbiotic relationship with algae is what keeps them alive. They actually have grooves in each individual hair on their backs, which allows water to collect, and allows for algae to grow. This offers them lots of natural camouflage in the canopy. This evolutionary relationship would not have developed if it weren't of some benefit to the sloth, and it is by keeping them out of sight from predators.
But yeah i guess it would be kind of gross to ever pat one on the back! haha

How could you? You've RUINED my opinion of sloths forever!!!!

But seriously, well I guess all animals have yukky things about them (human animals more than most!!)

I can still think of a sloth as LOOKING cute....I just won't ever cuddle one.....

A shaved sloth is even uglier. I think I'll keep taking mine hairy.
