I once listened to a guy (Jamie Clarke) who climbed it 3 times. He failed the first 2 times and finally made it on the 3rd attempt. He did it because of the challenge, it was there to be climbed and because he had climbed to the highest heights possible....

There will always be humans willing to take risks to accomplish something no one (or very few) have managed before. It is in our nature.

There are a few who have scaled the mountain without oxygen. So there is enough for those who are the very fittest. The storms and cold are merely hazards that must be factored into the attempt to climb the worlds highest graveyard.

Those who would climb the mountain know before they start that rescue of a disabled or injured climber is almost impossible. Climbers often walk past the dead or dying, knowing that there is little or nothing to do to help in those most extreme conditions, where every bit of energy and time must be devoted to saving one's own life.

Standing on the summit of Mt. Everest is the reward for taking one of the ultimate tests of human courage and determination.
