i know you are not suposed to diet during pregnancy and believe me i would not risk a pregnancy that i have prayed for all over a bit of unwanted kilos but i was wondering if i eat really healthy and do pregnancy exercises and just do some light walking is it possible that after i give birth i could be lighter (once i loose the baby weight) than i was at the start of the pregnancy? You see im not actually pregnant at the moment im on clomid ttc but im finding it hard to get motivated to shape up because i know i'll get right into it then have to stop when i get pregnant and i just thought if i could safely keep it going through out the pregnancy and possibley loose some weight aswell i will find it easier to get motivated now instead of having to wait until after the baby is born.

My best friend is 38 weeks pregnant, and she weighs 8 pounds less than she did before she got pregnant - without dieting at all! So yes, it's absolutely possible to wind up weighing less.

When I got pregnant with my son, I weighed about 230. My doctor recommended I try to avoid any weight gain at all; essentially, I'd have lost weight by the time the baby was born. Granted, that didn't happen, but that's what they wanted to happen.

You'll need to discuss it with your doctor, but if you are seriously overweight, losing weight won't hurt the baby. It will however, decrease your chances of weight-related problems, such as high blood pressure and gestational diabetes. The trick is to make sure you don't overdo it. You should start an exercise program NOW, before you get pregnant, as drs usually advise you not to start up a new rigorous exercise program while pregnant unless you've already been exercising regularly. Choose a healthy weight-loss program, such as Weight Watchers. Most importantly, when you do get pregnant, remember that while you're technically eating for two, one of you isn't going to need nearly so much food!

Good luck to you! I totally understand the motivation problem. I'm in the same boat myself.

Continuing a healthy diet and exercise routine is not only safe but can help you have an easier delivery and recover faster. Just make sure that you are eating enough calories and that you clear your physical activity with your doctor. Some activities should be avoided during pregnancy.
