In all the old movies when anyone is getting married. They always go to City Hall and they talk about a blood test. Most of these films are way before D.N.A. and all that. So I always wondered that they where testing for.I don't know if it is still required. But I know back then you could not get married without a test.

This is an easy one. The blood test was initially designed to prevent either family members from getting married (and thus having kids with three eyes), or two people with uncompatable blood types from marrying (again to prevent three eyed babies). That's it, it was designed for public safety. Hope this helps.

There was a mandatory blood test to check the Rh factor in each person because certain Rh factors are incompatible. The result was a child with developmental disabilities.

The Wasserman. I think it tested for syphilis (yes, confirmed - below)

It wasn't that you couldn't get married if you tested positive - just that you had to be upfront to your spouse-to-be over your health status. And if you were clean when you got married but later infected your spouse, it was also proof you'd been playing away!
