Yes what a good idea. So long as we don't have the death penalty and we can still go on driving on the wrong side of the road.
Out goes all the petty rules and in comes the better ones.
It will make no difference to anyone except the people at the top.

I spend a large amount of time in the USA (a couple of months a year) and really, most of the people I have spoken to are not like that. Most know that the UK and England are different, and do not think that they are wandering around Afghanistan whilst we do nothing. A lot value the contribution European countries make, but just don't want to have anything to do with the war themselves, as it were. Yes, some Americans are arrogant, but so are some British people, some Canadians, some Chinese...you can't judge and entire nation on the words of a few. Most Americans I know are no more arrogant than anywhere else, and are perfectly nice and well educated people. We have been something of an American puppet since WW2, and increasingly so since Blair. I don't think we'll ever become the 51st state - after all, we're much more likely to become a state of the US of Europe.

It will make a big difference. What Britain has is a six class system which means anyone can go about their business in complete confidence. That is to say our upper class can either be upper upper class or lower upper class. And middle class upper lower and so on. And sometimes even more finely spread than that.

On the other hand, the sickness of the American society as graphically defined in H G Wells Time Machine (get the book or watch the film), is that by its very nature, the society is increasing being divided into two classes. So the lower classes become the oppressed underdogs.

Most Americans have not noticed this trend because of the Hollywood propaganda, but you only have to observe the way that rich Americans treat those below them abroad to know what is going on over there. In such a society, the poor get poorer everyday and the Police are strengthened accordingly so there is no room for dissent. Good luck to them.

No. We have a lot in common with Americans but over time our cultures have drifted apart in key areas, and while the 2 countries make excellent allies that doesn't make us suitable for complete integration. The UK & US have a similar outlook on the world and both place a high value on the free market, but they have completely incompatible attitudes on major issues like the death penalty, firearms restrictions, nationalized health care, university education and many more. On these issues the UK is far closer to European attitudes than American ones but if the UK joined as one or more US states then we would have to accept the American outlook.

No-one in Britain would see themselves as 'American' so becoming a US state would make no sense. Most British people are eurosceptic and cite UK independence and sovereignty as key issues - well these things would be even more sacrificed by US statehood than EU membership. We would have to ditch the Queen and become a republic, replace GB£ with US$, and even if we could keep our army regiments and the RAF as a state national guard we would have to scrap the Royal Navy as the US constitution allows states to have other military forces but forbids them having their own warships. Think of the recent controversy when the government merely tried to merge some army regiments, scrapping the fleet would be political suicide. Britain is best off as an independent, sovereign nation-state closely allied to the US, other EU nations, and the British Commonwealth (especially Canada, Australia and New Zealand with whom we have even more in common than we do with the US or Europe).

It would not make a big difference, as Britain acts like an American state already. I would not like it though, to have American so close to mainland Europe. Before you know it, you will be bombed to bits because - for instance - an American is held at the International Tribunal in The Hague. I am Dutch, you see ...

No Britain should be independent i really find it disturbing that in just fifty years since the end of the Second World War we have a bunch of self loathing liberals who think we should be run by Europe or else it Will be The USA . What a great legacy the next generation has been left with a country ashamed of itself run by puppets directed by faceless bureaucrats.

No, Britain should not become an American State. It has strong traditions, strong people and should be it's own country. America is not looking to take over any other country and America has enough of it's own problems without trying to rule a country 3000 miles plus from its own government.

Britain should most certainly not become an American state. Are you American? Britain is a state in its own right, moving closer to Europe is far more logical than moving closer to the USA. the benefits of being close to Europe greatly outweigh anything the USA could offer. The USA would expect the UK to be under their thumb, and offer virtually nothing in return, whereas, as a member of the EU Britain is an equal member. If Europe were to become a federation, it would be at least as strong as the USA, stronger as far as trade goes. Why are so many Americans so keen to annex the UK?

I think the USA, Australia, the UK, NZ and Canada should form the Anglo Alliance and screw the UN and the EU and perhaps NATO for that matter for all that's left of it. We seem to be the Only ones that look after ourselves consistently for the Past 100 years.

Funelweb you are better off as an autonomous nation, do you really want the French and Germans telling you where to send troops and how much to pay in taxes.....?

This country is slowly losing everything that once made it GREAT.
Every damn government that gets into power seems intent on licking Europe`s ar$e and giving away our Britishness.
Every government that gets into power does nothing about the immgrant problem except talk! Talk is CHEAP!

As for your question - where is YOUR opinion???
