You are going about this wrong. How much do you know about royalty? If you are going to write a story based on the media notions of royalty, it is going to fall flat regardless of where you place your setting. You need to first decide what you want to write about? Is it going to be an uplifting story about how a family sticks together through all sorts of trials and tribulations, or a dark tale of intrigue and backstabbing? Is it a modern fantasy, or a grim thriller? That is going to have an impact on your setting.

Also, realize that the modern notion of a castle is very different from the original purpose of a castle. Most people think of Buckingham Palace when they think of castles, but in reality castles were originally meant to defend an area during times of war.

I suggest reading a lot of biographies about royalty, and reading a lot of history books to get an idea about how these people really live before worrying about location.

Well if you want the story to be satirical on either side. Either the royal family for not changing or the rest of the world for changing too fast, you should set it in a very large city, so that the castle is out of place. Beautiful castles and beautiful scenery, in my opinion would be scotland.

Research in the library or net about Ireland, Scotland and England that would be a great start and study the pictures and let your imagination take you there.

prague and finland are two that i would reccommend, but it's not such a great idea to write about a place you've never been to. you could always just create a place of your own to fit the specifications you need.

in historical places, if your setting is in the past you can go there, it may not be the ideal place but it is the right one to go to

UK.

However, I would make up your own country up and make it seem like it's always been there.
