Do n't you mean left??
Most races of these magnificent animals are now rare and the Bali and Java tigers are now extinct. There are only a few left in the wild and some more in zoos and captive breeding programs.Sorry I can't give you an accurate number...by the time I'd written it down another tiger may have been killed to satisfy superstitious people who actually believe tiger penis is an aphrodisiac..saddos.
Detroit tigers..they're a women's rounders team are n't they??

It is estimated there are between 5000 to 7400 wild tigers left in the world - that is less than 7% of the wild tiger population that were in the world 100 years ago http://www.savethetigerfund.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Search1&template=/CM/HTMLDisplay.cfm&ContentID=2050 For more information on tigers and types of tigers check out the Save the Tiger website http://www.savethetigerfund.org//AM/Template.cfm?Section=Home1
Good Luck!!!

Fewer than 5,000 tigers left as habitat disappears, report shows
Independent, The (London), Jul 21, 2006 by Deborah Zabarenko in Washington
Tigers have 40 per cent less habitat than they did a decade ago, due to farming, intense poaching and the rise of an Asian middle class that puts pressure on the big cats and their environment, wildlife experts said.
"They're suffering from international crime, economic exploitation and environmental depredation," said John Seidensticker, a scientist at the US National Zoo and chairman of the Save The Tiger Fund Council, a conservation group.
"We must make live tigers worth more than dead tigers, and landscapes with tigers worth more than landscapes that are missing this most beautiful cat," he said at a news conference next to a zoo enclosure, where a Sumatran tiger breakfasted under a tree.
Tigers live in just 7 per cent of their historic range, which once included large areas from the shores of the Black Sea to the Korean peninsula. The biggest tiger landscapes now are in the Russian Far East and northeastern China and along the Nepal-India border, says a report by the Worldwide Fund for Nature, Save the Tiger Fund and the Wildlife Conservation Society.
Poaching of tigers for body parts, used for traditional medicines, has contributed to the animals' decline, said Eric Dinerstein, one of the report's authors. "There's a rising middle class in Asia that can now afford tiger parts," he said. He estimated the total number of tigers in the wild at fewer than 5,000. REUTERS

Sorry, but they will never get by the Red Sox to win the pennant. However, they will make the playoffs, and they are having a great season. I'm sure Georgie Pogie will disagree, but he has been waiting so long for the Tigers to win, his brain is a little fuzzy. Great fan, though. Chow!!

I dont know the exact number but they are an endangered species and are constantly hunted down in Asia because their parts are sold for use in Asian medicine. It is tragic and whatever can be done to save these magnificent animals should be done quickly. Meanwhile stop buying products that contain tiger parts. Tiger balm, the world famous balm for headaches and colds etc. is one such item. Dont buy. Save the tiger.

Today an estimated 5,000 of these sleek felines are left in the world with numbers dwindling and the situation seemingly out of control.
