Hey guys, Over the past few months everytime I hit a switch to turn on a light, I hear this really loud and startling sound (sounds like something hitting a hollow metal rod). This isn't just one switch, it happens all over the place. Anyone out there got an idea on what exactly is going on?

It's a warning from heaven that you are wasting energy! lol
No, seriously, as a person dealing with electricity most of my life, I have never heard of such a thing happening.
How about you get a friend to trace where the sound is coming from. You keep turning the switch on and off and have him trace the sound to it's source.

Sounds like your house might be spooked. Documents all over the world. Depends on your beliefs I guess. Talk to a priest and do some history on the house to find a path from the past if there is one to be found. Electrical switches are generally silent or have the occasional 'click' if they're old or well used.
Good Luck
