Contact the police right now but be aware.... The moment this other guy get's a visit from plod, he will probably get even more threatening and abusive. Be prepaired !
If he arrives at your home or you dad's to make threats or take violent or intimidating action make sure the police are called on a triple nine emergency ( immediate danger ) and have him arrested ( public order probably ).
The problem you face it.... Yes, by rights he should be brought to order, made to pay and the matter should be finished with, but not living in Utopia, it will probably get messy and he will refuse to pay, kick off and make threats etc. I suspect you have a long battle ahaed, you have to ask yourself is it worth £1000 to see this guy brought to justice ? it's an ethical debate I'm not entering into here.
Learn from the experience is all you can do.
By the way.... The V5 document is NOT proof of ownership, so if you can prove you own the car on paper, and he has no reciept of purchase etc, that might make your case against him a little stronger.

Regarding the money for the car - your poor dad has no proof that the guy didn't give him the money in cash and I think the police would see it that way. Your dad's right - it's best to let it go.
Regarding the threat to kill, I would report this incident to the police, it's something I think they would keep on record.

you have two problems but you had three. you wanted to be done with the car.and you are. But you avoided the biggest and potentially the most devastating problem. you got the car out of your name...good for you.....you could have been a lien holder but getting the car out of your name is most important...besides, you didn.t have another buyer so maybe , realistically you are out maybe 500 American.....i am however suspicious of the term he transferred the paperwork to the buyer.....that could mean you signed the title over to the buyer. then the buyer needs to take it to your "department of transportation and register it in his name. if you did not do that expect to really get screwed.

I used to drive past a house on my way to work every morning. Outside this house was a car on the driveway. It had written up the side of it in big white letters "this person does not pay his debts". One day it would be clean, the next it would be painted again! Every now and then it's tyres would be slashed/windows broken etc. haha!! That'll teach 'em!!
However, to stay on the right side of the law and avoid getting your head kicked in, I would advise you to go to the police instead.

Its no good going to the police because it is a civil matter, and not a criminal matter. Your only choice is to consult a solicitor. Personally, if there is no way of getting the car or the money back, I would accidentally leave a petrol bomb in the car.

First question..do you have anything in writing or whatever besides verbal agreement that this man owes money for this car? If so, I would take him to court, and I would call the police, threats are no joke...

Hi RG,
Go to the police, threats to kill are a criminal offence and there may also be a case for theft over the car.
Good luck.

Contact the police asap. A threat to kill is a serious criminal offence. Record all phone calls and conversations with this maniac. Keep any other evidence you have. He is a thief and a conman.
