Haha do u know even where that came from? griego is the spanish word for greek. During the Mexican-American war, when the troops were speaking they did not understand what they were saying. As we use the phrase today "its greek to me" the spanish used the phrase hablar en griego as an incomprehensible person. So no the word "gringo" is not offensive, even though mexicans would like it to be, your just calling Americans Greeks....

Well when it's said in a bad way, kind of like the way white racists say the word "Mexicans," yes I get offended. Mexican is just a person's nationality, a way to describe something about someone, and it has no bad meaning, but in the wrong hands or the wrong mouth it can be a personal attack. I feel the same way about the word Gringo.

When I'm in Mexico, I'm a Gringo. When I'm in Australia, I'm a Yank. When I'm in the Philippines, I'm a Cano.
No need to take offense. That's just the way the world is.

for one thing they are not Gringo, so they probably look at you like your stupid when and if you call them that, go read a few books, they chose the proper slang for the proper people. See how well liked you will be. pin head
