The original theme was at the basis (not a great discription sorry) a farm boy learns that he is the last Jedi and has to stop a sithlord and save the world with the help of a space pirate and a princess who turns out to be his sister, then he learns the sith lord is his father and the sith lord takes out his boss to destroy the universe.

I believe that in those times after the Vietnam war.Fathers and sons were all fighting and this movie made sense by saying that no matter your fathers changes he will love you and have your back but that's what I saw in them
