That would just be one more mistake the U.S. could do in a long line of mistakes in dealing with Iran. The people of Iran had been subject to decades of human rights violations by the Shah, a despot put in power by the USA to control the oil in that country.
For that, the Iranian people have not forgiven the USA, and the USA never even said sorry. It was a serious wrong never addressed by the U.S. It's time it does.
edit:
You need to look at the history of events in Iran after WWII. It's no wonder Iran hates the USA. The USA is not innocent in the dispute between the two countries. If you find out why Iran hates the US, you might want to think twice before bombing the place. Two wrongs don't make a right. We should at least say, "Hey Iran, sorry about the Shah," first. If that doesn't change anything, then bomb the crap out of them.

Yes, Unless Iran first detonates a Nuke on American soil, Liberals will raise holy Hell about how wrong it was to do it in the first place. If the Iranians did this, Liberals would first want to put togeather a sensitivity commitee to determine why they did it in the first place. (They Hate us) Then Liberal Propagandist would put togeather a conspiracy theory of how it was an inside Job or that The Republicans knew this was going to happen and did nothing to stop it. The Republicans will send in the bombs and When Iran is half way razed the Liberals will then scream that it has taken to long and we need to stop the bombing. A US bomber will be hit by a SAM and the crew will go down in flames and the Liberals will scream that the cost in American lives is too high and we need to pull out.

Im sure the royalists and much of the population are dreaming of the day when a King or Queen once again rule Iran instead of the current oppresive religeous regime.

Thousands of protests globally involving millions of people? No, I don't think so.

edit: how about China, Russia, India, Pakistan, France, Germany, Syria, Egypt - and every one of Iran's worried neighbours

It is an evil empire for sure, but to bomb Iran to the ground would mean killing innocent people. I wouldn't mind seeing their Pres wooped up, but not women and children

Yes

Politically speaking, I will be very happy. Almost as happy as the 1994 election when we kicked the Democrats out of Congress. Especially if we nuke them really hard and turn all their sand into glass!
