I just found a 60 year old stock certificate in my deceased grandmothers personal papers. The company name doesn't sound familiar and couldn't find anything online by that company name. The corporation was registered in Montana but it was a mineral development company involved in oil, gas, gold, silver operations. Where can i go to find out if this stock certificate is worth anything. Name of company is Wilson Creek Development Inc.

I'm not letting this stock certificate out of my sight so don't even think i would send it to anyone, not with 500,000 shares listed on it's face. It may be worthless and if it is, i'll keep it for sentimental reasons.

Here ya go! To bad it's a dissolved company. Usually state government's keep records of all corporations current and inactive.

The first place to start is the Montana state department that specializes in businesses.

Next you might want to check Montana's "unclaimed property" department, companies are required by law to submit the money owed to people they can't find to the "unclaimed property" department in the state.

You could also call a public library in Montana and ask them.

Good luck

And to think that certificate is only 8 years older than you are. I'd keep it at 500,000 shares! I think someone is about to reap a windfall if the company is still in business!

Talk to an investment broker, they will be able to tell you what they will be worth, if the stock has split over the years, or if and when a company has paid dividends out to the stock holders.
