Ok, thanx for your answears so far, I did mean basically if you have one parent with blue eyes and one with brown, which is most likely to dominate. I didnt mean world wide are there more brown then blue.

Brown is dominant, blue is recessive (the opposite of dominant). Your family probably has blue eyes because most of your ancestors had blue eyes. If they married more brown eyed people, then brown eyes would eventually become dominant. Some people would still have blue eyes, though, but they would be in the minority, say, one out of four children might have blue eyes and the rest would have brown eyes. Sometimes there are mutations, where a new trait appears without coming from a parent. I know a family from Pakistan, everybody has brown eyes, but they had one son who has blue eyes--maybe that represents a mutation.

Generally speaking brown dominates if one person in a couple has brown and the other has blue. but it is not always so, if the brown eyed person has a strong family line of non brown eyes then that can increase the probability they will be blue or not brown, ie another colour from either partners family line.

Brown is dominant, my biology teacher said that. My family all have blue eyes, simply because going back to my gr grandparents, none of them had brown eyes. All had blue. God you've got some stupid answers on here. The comment above me is spot on though. Also where I live, a lot of people are brunette with blue eyes, you don't have to be blonde to have blue eyes. I have even seen Indians with blue eyes, they look stunning, no contacts either.

Brown will dominate because it's a dominant gene. However if a couple who both carry the recessive gene for blue eyes have a child that child can have blue eyes. My nephew has blue eyes even though his mum and dad have brown. His two grannies both have blue eyes so this indicates that my brother and sister in law are carriers of the recessive gene for blue eyes.

As far as I know the blonde gene is not as strong as the dark gene. But in your family I guess your realtives have all been marrying people that have some of that gene. Also I think sometimes there can be an individual that has not so strong dark gene and then it can happen that the baby is a bit blond. :))))))

In my family only my grandpa is blond with very bright blue eyes and everybody else is brunette or has a dark brown hair an eyes:))

The gene for brown eyes is more dominant than that for blue eyes.

However, if everyone in your family has blue eyes and all marry people with blue eyes, then the dominant brown gene will not get a look in!

I take it you mean in numbers. I would have thought blue eyes. The anglo saxon coming out, but nowadays there are so many different nationalities, maybe brown will break about even. I always was a fence sitter lol
