I think that they thought Carr was a top qb at that time.

They did screw up by not taking Bush or VY but dont throw all the blame on Carr. At the beging of this year he started out great. The real problem with Carr and the Texans in general is the Offencive Line. No team can win with its QB always getting killed. The Texans have a lot of good young talent but they need to draft 2 maybe 3 good O-line men to have a chance to win in the coming years

The problem lies in the Texans management decisions. Carr is a good qb. Throw any qb into the same spot Carr is in and you'll get the same results. When a qb doesn't get protection he's gonna suck. It doesn't matter how good he is, when a defense has an open path to the qb, he's gonna struggle. Even Vick with his elusive speed and strong arm struggles thanks to the inadequacy of his o-line. Vince Young would have faced the same fate. The Texans need to address their O-line with more urgency. And who in their right mind would pick Mario Williams over Reggie Bush? How often do you get a chance at an impact rookie like Bush and pass up on him? He would've helped Carr so much with his hot routes when the defense blitzes.

A little critical aren't we?
I would agree that I felt the Texans organization would be a little further along than they're showing on the field, but let's face it- they're in one seriously competetive division, and they're the last time in the league to have beaten the Colts.
The reason they didn't take Reggie Bush in the draft was because they had a very productive back in Dominick Davis who got hurt prior to training camp. This completely threw off Gary Kubiak's offensive plan, and their defense needed some serious help and they got it in the 06' draft in DeMarco Ryans. Let's give Mario Williams another year, and I think we'll see him improve.
Where the Texans front office has gotten so wrong was it's offensive line- and I don't care what quarterback you're throwing in that mix, they aren't going to be very productive when they're running for their lives. David Carr is this generation's Jim Plunkett, who became the quarterback everyone thought he'd be after he left his original team(Plunkett played for the Raiders, but was with the Patriots before). I think they should trade Carr while he's got some serious value to him, and bring in Jake Plummer for short-term answers.
They need to address this offensive line situation more, they did somewhat in 06', but it's gotta improve.
Nevertheless, they play in one helluva stadium. Reliant is gorgeous!

The same problem the Redskins once had: Charley Casserly. The Skins had one poor draft after another for a decade. The same pattern followed in Houston. Five seasons is more than adequate time to build a playoff contender, and the Texans have never come close. Now that Casserly's out of the picture, they have a chance to get better.

I truly believe it is the inability to make good draft decisions and off season changes. Yes Like someone said before they play in a very good division. But to be the best you have to play the best. Carr isnt the best QB in the world but, he can play. Their defense is starting to show up now with demeco ryans getting the rookie defensive mvp. And Mario Williams( 1st Round 1st Pick!!!!! 2006) hasnt truly matured into an NFL player yet.

Carr is a decent Qb to build around, look for them to take Adrian Peterson in this years draft. If they let him go expect to see Plummer in a Texans uniform this year.

the drafters have something wrong with them. if you think about it, the bears could be in just as bad shape as the texans. both drafted qbs that were top draft choices at the time. neither has lived up to it. the bears just have a better team built around them.

Their blind to the fact that the scouting team can not scout. They blame the mifortune on the frontline of the offence. Their qb cant throw it 25 yards down the field. And if you cant see that Ship this team to LA. Coming from a person who went to school with VY.

I'm a TEXAN fan, Carr was OK at first, but he should be a backup quarterback, they are keeping Sage Rosenthal,a free agent would be Jake Plummer, and they do need a good quarterback, but also a offense line too.
