I have a thompson speedtouch 570 wireless + a 3com wireless adaptor

If you mean a standard USB WLAN adapter, then no. These will not work.
There are adapters, that convert a wired ethernet connection to a wireless signal like for example the D-Link Wireless 108AG Gaming Adapter.
However, as this adapter almost costs as much as the original Xbox adapter, I'd stick to the original Xbox Wireless adapter.

there are other alternatives, such as the d-link wireless game adapter, and the linksys one as well.
I think buffalo makes one also.
all three are much more afforadable then the MS one.
