if you agree please go to http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/no2shelia/

if you don't agree please explain why there isn't a "Mens Only" insurer for careful male drivers to redress the balance.

let me know your thoughts either way.

That is totally sexist. If there was a car insurance for "males only" feminists all over the world would start a riot. It is things like this that could start a whole new civil rights movement.
As a female, I find it completely unfair to males everywhere... a complete injustice

As a woman, i did think that this was sexist, and I agree that there should be male only insurances. But would you then complain if it was more expensive?

I do not think women are better or more careful drivers. You have these football mums, who drive around in huge 4x4s that make them feel safe, and that they can do anything they want in them. They dont look, and are distracted by kids, mobiles and make up.

The other thing i should state about these Womans only insurance policies, is that to insure a young girl, 17-25 is phenominally more expensive!!

At the end of the day, insurers discriminate on loads of critera - age, occupation, where you live etc.

If everyone had the same premium, it would be sky high to cover the 'riskier' drivers.

While I abhor sexism in any form, it makes sense that the STATISTICALLY PROVEN safer drivers have a cheaper premium.

If you are a safe driver, there's always the option of going with the likes of esure, who only insure people with 5 years' no claims and no traffic offenses.

On another note, there are plenty of male-only 'clubs'. For a start, look at football. Do you think it's fair, given your question, that women can't play with the male team?

They are implying that women are safer driver and are less costly to them, so they should enjoy this benefit. But there is also a rebate fore careful men drivers. I am sure that most insurance companies offer you insurance at a less rate if you haven't had an accident for some time. The only thing is that it is open to both men and women, so you might have a point.

Yes, yes it is. Both are giving preference to those of a biological characteristic that has no bearing on the task at hand (gender and race). Notice that women (especially from the previous answers) call it "courtesy" because they BENEFITED from discrimination. Whites said the same, for the same reason. Those who say that "ladies first" is about honor and respect? That's PRECISELY what "whites only" was about.

It's naive to think that female-only insurers are anything more than a marketing gimmick. These companies are just brand names for bigger insurers (e.g. Diamond is owned by EUI which is owned by Admiral). If you're a woman, you might get a better rate, or you might not.

Sheila's Wheels don't just insure women. I get a quite competitive quote from them (not quite competitive enough - so I went elsewhere).

But although my wife's quote was cheaper than mine, that was the case at almost all of the insurers I went to. They don't just sell to ladies, they only market to ladies - which is quite acceptable.
