I am in a very poor country and have been given a one off chance to setup a political debate on TV for young politicians and I need pointers or at least lists of things I need to take care of before we go to press. Thanks guys... and dolls ..love you all.

Fine, i think that you should cover during the debate some of the current events, and take the others opinion about what's going on, thus the image will get clearer for audiance.
And since everybody is youth, you should not be interested in political matters only, because those who are participating have the right to implement thier points.
Now write the points you are going to talk about on a piece of paper, and search for some further info from the net or newspapers archives, read them and understand them too good, and put some questions. And sure, during the show always take notes and put questions.
Don't talk about something you are prepared well for, because it's a weak point that will be seen on TV. Take control and be the leader.
