I am just about to re-do my bathroom and I need some advice! I am going to install a new bath with deck mounted taps, which are on order already. Can I add a diverter and hand held shower onto this! I know you can buy diverter/hand shower/ tap sets but I need to know if I can add onto a normal tap arrangement with seperate hot & cold supplies feeding into a swivel spout! We have a gravity fed system. Any advice welcome.

As you said, normally the vaalve is integrated into the tap set. The diverter spout is merely there to offer resistance and thus force the water to change direction to "escape" from the pipe into the shower pipe and away from the spout pipe. I am sure you could find an integrated unit and modify it to work in your system. You should be able to plumb it in and hide the whole mess behind the wall boards. Good Luck!
