I have sliding doors all over the house. They are constantly going off track. I end up having to pick the doors up and move them over. I cannot stress enough how much I HATE them. I cannot afford to replace all the closet doors in my house, but does anyone know of a better alternative? I haven't been to Lowes lately. Do they sale some kind of sliding door kit that doesn't allow them to go off the track?

Sounds like they are warn. In the hardware section of Lowes, there are all the pieces to rebuild your doors. runners. wheels, guides everything. alot cheaper than new doors. try replaceing the guides and wheels. lastly replace the runner at the top. Best way to do this is to take one door down and take the hardware off of it and take it to lowes to match it up. if you were in my town, i would take you right to them, lol. I work for Lowes.

I am guessing these are the type that have the wheels mounted to the inside of the door at the top and run on a "hanging-type" track. Know them well, hate them too. There is hope but it takes a bit of effort and time.

These wheel units are screwed to the door. The door is probably hollow and the screws are stripped and thus the adjuster lets the door fall, it binds and jumps the track.
Take the door off and find the bracket with the wheel. move it towards the top of the door half way between where you found it (too low) and the top of the door (too high/too tight). Use some construction adhesive and glue the bracket all around the sides of it. Let it dry overnight and re-hang the door. It should run pretty well from there.

Good Luck!

I have seen people make curtains for their closet doors and then you don't have to mess with 1/2 the opening being covered up by a door.

Two ways of covering the doors with material is using a tension rod like ones that hang up shower curtains or using velcro at the top of your closet.

Material could add another decorating dimension to your room or soften your walls. Some people even find shower curtains on sale that match their decorating style but material isn't expensive and you can do no sew curtains with hemming glue sold in most craft stores.

Hope this helps.

Maybe you can seal off some of them with drywall and demolish the back wall of the closets, increasing the square footage of the room behind them. Or after you drywall, you could have the closets open into that room instead of the hallway (if you don't want to lose the storage space).

the wheels on the doors are "Adjustable", they might be worn, thats why they come off the track, you can buy new hardware for them, at any hrdwr. store.
