It isnt so much a question of race, it's a question of attitude.
The people who have been in power for so long do not believe a man who looks so differently from themselves can possibly have an attitude or an outlook on life which matches theirs.
While it is a prejudiced and bigoted outlook to have, there is some justification for it. Many who are now in power have never treated those who AREN'T in power very well, and now they fear not only could this behavior come back to haunt them (since they are incapable of conceiving of anyone not doing something the way THEY would do it), but that they could be completely marginalized.
Their biggest fear of a black or female President isn't that they would do a terrible job (that would only confirm their fears and justify their complaints, giving them the all important, "I TOLD YOU SO" rights), no, what they MOST fear is that feeling they have deep down inside tthat they HAVEN'T been working for a better America or are people who exploit the less powerful for their own profit. They truly fear a black or female President will actually do the job the President is SUPPOSED to do for the American people, which in turn will cause people to wake up and realize the future doesn't HAVE to be about war and conflcit and obscene profits for a chosen few at the expense of the entire world, and when people wake uyp and realize that, they will see a Party, which says it loves America but clearly shows its hatred of Americans, for what it truly is: Not a Party of unity, but of division. Not a party of fairness for all, but exclusivity for a bare few of the annointed.
When that happens, you may not hear from that party too much anymore, it will be like being in the Neo Nazis or the KKK: People will still join, but they'll keep it secret since others will look at them strangely for their choice.

Get over it? that whining racial crap again and it is Black History month I suppose that is why we are on that old subject? It is not hate anymore it is reverse discrimination now a days they want a Nazi in there named Arnie Scwartzeneger? A man that is not born here? That was raise in a Nazi youth camp in WW II and his father was an SS a STorm Trooper Nazi? Race is crap the idea is we need an American in there to preserve our culture, what is this a giveaway program? Muslims, Islanders, Nazis what ever gets our a crack at ruining our country and then we all whine and cry? Get over the race issues it is a smoke screen! Vote for the person what they stand for who they are, where their loyalties lie? Not someone because they are black and want to help who? Or german and want to revive the Nazi party? Or a Puritan and hang witches and warlocks like Bush Clan and the KKK?
Get rid of bad rubbish, Elect a person a real American and nothing less than a Thomas Jefferson, or a John Adams or we will lose this country for sure! Number one is if there is a black president now we will lose the respect of all of Europe, and Russian, China et al! They have their resentments as well as bigotry, they already hate America and remember Europe were the ones that sold them as slaves to us? I am a native American so I can't be prejudice, so take this as an objective viewer and believe me I know what I am talking about they will think we have lost our minds to let an African in our seat of power, that is just how they think eh? Especially Britain? It would be for his own sake to wait at least 8 years and then after we clean house and drag our traitors off to jail and correct our problems here and show the world we are strong again then we will be able to elect a Black man and flaunt it right up their snobby noses eh? Arabs hate the Africans look at what they are doing there now? And they are weaker so think how they will think we are weak? get it? They are stategically weak and lack of experience is the problem there.

He won't have a fair chance in time for 2008.
It used to be worse, Obama has been given the fairest spin in all my years on this here dirt.
If Martin Luther King were alive he'd still be dreaming.
A the present rate of change, it will be fair enough in about 50 years.
Your young people are embracing all races and cultures with less bias than we, their parents, have.

Not until whites become a minority AND lose the power to perform electoral fraud.
In Latin American countries, only once corrupt whites were dispossessed of such power could the people elect real leaders.
Whites will NEVER vote for someone belonging to a different race. They will find ANY reason not to: that the person is too far-left, or too far-right, or too inexperienced, etc.
But they will NEVER vote for a non-white. It's the same as it happens with jury trials: whites will never give their fellow whites a sentence as harsh as the ones they are ready to deal to people from other races.
The fact that they are so united, right or wrong, is what makes them strong. We all could learn that: my people, right or wrong.

Yes. Why Not ? Everyone is free to run. He is qualified and he can handle the U.S.
It's not the color that makes change in the country, It's the man.
Why don't you people try change, you don't know.
Maybe President Bush is tired of carrying the country's problems on his shoulders, so why not try Obama.

Yes, provided he or she doesn't run only for the purpose of being an African American. I hope that we can go beyond the race card here in the US, and elect candidates by their records & what they would want to do for the country. That's much more important. We need leadership regardless of color.

I don't think it's hate anymore, now it's just "Hmm, he's different. I don't like 'different'."
I don't think Obama's really got a chance, with Hillary's political machine working around the clock to dig up any speck of dirt, but if she weren't running, I think he'd have a good shot.
