I've got to drive from my house to Derby over the weekend (about 120 miles, I think). The fuel cost is going to be troublesome (even though my car is only 1.1).

I was thinking about putting an ad in the local paper stating that if anyone wants anything that would fit in my car taken to Derby (or somewhere en route) I would do it for them at a cost (say 50p a mile?).

1. Is this a reasonable cost for delivery a few hours after dispatch?

2. Am I breaking any laws?

Thanks!

You are taking a risk from an insurance point of view.
Both if an item is reported damaged ( even if you didn't do it) or it gets lost.

Secondly your insurance for the car indicates its for personal use. If you are involved in an accident whilst acting as a paid courrier it will be seen as commercial enterprise and your insurance will be voided. Better not to do it.

Before going anywhere - know that your insurance would become invalid.

As a private car - 'for hire or reward' will be an exclusion.

Don't risk it.

you are better to advertise for taking a person and split the costs.
