I think they need to find a way for bernie to stay on this team. He has done so much for the yankees, and he proved last year that he can still play. A switch hitter coming off the bench, he could still help this team. Just out of respect alone.

Though Bernie Williams is probably no longer a starter, it's not a bad idea to keep him as a fourth outfielder- part time DH.
To offer him a minor league contract after all that he has done for the Yankees is a pretty lame move by ownership.
I am not a Yankees fan (far from it) but he has been a mainstay with them for a lot of seasons.
Maybe Williams should just walk away and retire rather than have to fight for a roster spot in spring training.

there is no question that Bernie merits to be on the Yankees roster pondering each and every little thing he has carried out for the franchise provided that his first sport in 1991. He has been no longer something below a classification act and group participant 3 hundred and sixty 5 days in and 3 hundred and sixty 5 days out. Brian Cashman besides the undeniable fact that, feels the would desire to have 3 first basemen on the 25 guy roster. In all certainty Bernie would desire to play for the Yankees this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days as a 5th outfielder at the back of Melky. Will He? No. Bernie replace into already became down via Cashman and the Yankees, regardless of their understand for WIlliams, will by no potential be brining him back this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days.

I think the Yankees owe him the consideration of being on the roster. He gave his heart and soul to the Yankees so they should at the very least allow him to stay. He can still play at a decent level and being a switch hitter is always a plus in your lineup. Some people are identified with certain teams. Bernie is a Yankee and should always be a Yankee.

I think Bernie really thinks that in his heart he has one more good year left, but I also think that his mind is telling him that he should hang it up for good. The Yankees have a very good lineup and I really feel that even though Bernie is a great club house presence and has his very good moments on the field, I honestly don't think he feels he can contribute much as a part-time player. Look for him to maybe go to Spring Training with the Yanks, but I think he'll call it quits before the season.

I really like Bernie but I wish he would retire on his own. His career with the Yankees has been above board but the his time is over. The Yankees are set in the outfield barring any injuries. There's no room for him.

I think his feelings are hurt because he was only offered a minor league contract and would have to try out for the team.

It would be a good idea for the NY Mets to consider him; they lost Cliff Floyd and Bernie Williams would be a better fit than he was last year. Plug Bernie in left field and let me go for 130 games.

no way. The team and Bernie need to move on. The Yanks tried to save themselces by offering a minor league deal but Bernie said no.

Unless a few injuries hit the yanks Bernie is now retired. no one else will sign him

No, there isn't a spot on the roster for him. It's a tough, but good move by the Yanks.

As for him on another team, personally I just think he should retire.

If he wants to play, he'll have to do it in the AL. (umm.... one guy mentioned the Mets?). Bernie is just not a good outfielder any more. Terrible, terrible arm, and very poor range, so he couldn't do anything but DH.

And he's not a prolific hitter either.... I'm sure he wanted to stick around to win one more time and retire on a championship, but it might just be time to hang em up.

Well considering Bernie just said that he would not be attending the Yankees Spring Training, I really doubt he will.
