I presume it is a label on a jar or something. First you need to boil a kettle of water then put the boiling water in a plastic basin with a spoon and then put the jar in and leave to soak over night then the next day the label should float off. If it still is a bit sticky ise some methylated spirits on some tissue to remove this

Put some rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball and rub it over the spot. You might have to do it several times but it will remove the label residue.

pour some white spirit on rag, then soak sticky with rag after having first removed label.
wait a few minutes for white spirit to loosen sticky then it will come off easy with another wipe.
if you cannot get label off first give a good soak with white spirit to be able to peel off.

The petrol used in Zippo lighters works well, but I'm not sure if it's ok on fabrics or some plastics.

On metal or non porus surfaces, WD40 works well on some labels too.

As the others said white spirit, nail varnish remover etc, however if you dont have any and need to remove it now,a little aftershave or perfume will do the trick or furniture polish will also remove it,just takes a little more elbow grease !
Good luck !

Goo Gone works very nicely. It's available at hardware stores or Walmart type stores. It leaves a bit of an oily mess of it's own though, but that's pretty easy to clean up.
