It depends on your religious beliefs. I believe in God, but I am not Christian. I believe that you should be thankful to God and pray giving thanks for what you have. When you become consciously grateful for the things you have, your attitude changes and you will feel better about things in general. It is okay and good to ask God for things, but I don't think that begging really works. Many people beg when they pray. I think that prayers are answered more often when we make a request and believe that God will actually answer our prayer. Attitude has a lot to do with it. I know I'm not being very clear, but it's hard to explain. If you have something that you want to pray for that is very important to you, you can ask people to pray for you or you can even call a prayer hot line.

There isn't a specific way to pray. Just close your eyes and say in your head or out loud what you want. All you need is to feel that you are connecting to your god/gods and that they can hear you. As such prayer is your request for fulfillment to god, a way of attaining peace, and of course the only way to find god. So prayer is nothing more than request and want. You can say the combination of request and want results from your praying to god. Thus, Prayer is by means a way to convey your message to god.

Prayer is simply talking to God. You don't have to be eloquent in speech, you just have to be honest in your heart. He knows your heart anyway. Prayer can take place anywhere. You can pray in a room full of people. The conversation is simply between you and God. After you have prayed, gave praise, gave thanksgiving, made your requests know, listen to what he has to say to you.

You praise him and tell him how great he is and thank him for the good and bad things in your life (because the bad as well as good help you to become what God wants you to be), then you talk to God as you would another person and tell him your problems, then you thank him again and finish with praise. And it does not matter how long or if you speak out or think it, it is all prayer as long as it is directed to God, you can tell him anything. The Psalm in the bible are a lot of King Davids prayer and The Lord prayer can give you examples.

You can pray anywhere and at anytime, but I like to find a quiet spot so I can have alone time with God & concentrate on my prayer and His presence. Talk to him about how you feel and what you are searching for. I talk to him as if He were a regular person....with the upmost reverance of course. You don't need to use fancy words or poetry. Talk to your Creator about what's in your heart. He will listen and answer prayers as well. Ask...and it will be answered, Seek... and you will find, Knock...and the door will be opened to you. Jesus made this promise to us.

Just get on your knees and close your eyes and start praying to God by saying Dear heavenly father please teach me how to pray. Just talk to God like he is your friend and mean it from your heart. This is a good start .Go to a church and have a priest or pastor teach you how to pray. This may help as well. Learn to say the Prayer that is in the Bible.
Our Father which art in Heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven
Gice us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us
and lead us not into tempation
But deliver us from Evil
For Thine is the kingdom and the Power and the Glory Forever
Amen!
Also start reading your Bible as well as this will help you learn better how to pray and how to be closer to our Heavenly Father which is God.

prayer is your union with God
prayer is your union with your self
prayer is your union with your Fellow beings
there are different ways to be in union, in silence, in repeating his name going to a holy place there are a hundred ways out there choce the one that suits you the best.
hindu philosophy says your work is your prayer
there is a little story i would like to share with you once Narada went to Lord Vishnu and asked who is the greatest disciple of Lord Vishnu, knowing well that he chants Vishnu's name every time. The lord, knowing well that Narada wants some pampering, pointed to a peasant on earth and said he is my greatest Disciple. Narada countered the answer by saying that he chants your name only thrice a day while I do it all the time. not saying a word, the Lord gave narada a pot filled with water and asked Narada to walk arround Vaikunda three times and said if a drop of water falls down you will never see my face again. Narada obediently followed the instruction of the Lord and returned after some time the lord was happy that he did not spill even a drop of water. and asked him how many times did he chant his name narada said sorry I was too involved in concentrating not to spill the water and I forgot to chant your name . The lord answered , and the man down on the earth, has a family to support he has to work from morning till evening to earn his bread and still chants my name three times a day so its he who is my best desciple.
best of luck

You ask for him by name: father, Jesus, lord, god. then you just talk, like you would if you we're talking to a friend on the phone, Jesus wants that personal relationship with you! Not one that is formal or scripted or fake...Talk from your heart. I have a special place where I can be alone..where I look up at the sky and just talk, I feel so much better when I come home that my kids, know that I went to speak to him.
